“This was a lost camera that was in the lost and found section of the candy store I work at in downtown Chatham, Massachusetts. I found it during the summer of 2008. I didn’t know about this website until I attended a Postsecret event! I immediately thought about this camera I had found and decided to give it a shot. I don’t have the actual camera anymore because it was a disposable.. but when I got the pictures developed the man gave me a disk and I have all the uploaded pictures on my computer.”

“Found a baby/carolina blue Canon PowerShot SD130015 in a taxi in Lincoln Park, Chicago on December 18th 2010. It was found at about 4:00 a.m.
Here are the best photos in the lot, the rest are mostly landscapes. Thank you… I hope they look on this site!!!!”

Waikiki Beach, Hawaii

“While snorkling at Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, this past August, I noticed something on the ocean floor. I dove down to check it out, and found a digital camera (Pentax Optio) inside a plastic ziplock bag. Water had seeped into the bag and destroyed the camera, but I was able to recover some photos and videos (114 in all) from the data card in the camera.
The date stamp on the final pictures taken while kayaking off Waikiki is August 13, 2010. The earliest pictures are from August 2009.
From the pictures, it appears the camera belonged to the girl, who sings and plays the piano in most of the videos.”

“This black Nikon Coolpix P50 8.1 MPs camera was found in an NYC yellow cab on July 7th, 2010. Hopefully someone will be recognized!”

Three years
Feb 03February 3 marks three years of IFoundYourCamera.net.
Since then, we’ve posted some 400 sets of orphaned photos from across the world. With your help, we’ve helped return 30 of those sets back to their original owners.
We have been featured by CNN, the New York Times, USA Today, BBC, CBC, and countless other local and campus media outlets across North America. In total, more than five million people have checked out the website in the hopes of finding their pictures, or those of their friends, or to play Internet detective to help out a complete stranger. Last month, more than 122,000 visitors came to our website.
IFoundYourCamera.net has alway been a community-powered project, continually reaching new corners of the world. It’s been through its changes, it’s seen a bit of downtime. Going forward, we want to make it even better.
To do that, we need your help.
We have always worked off the principle of six degrees of separation and paying it forward.
If you see a set of orphan photos from your city, contact a local reporter so we can work together to gain greater exposure and raise the chances of the photos being returned. Share our website through Facebook or Twitter and other social networking sites. Blog about us. Email the link to friends and family. The more people we have reading, the better we can increase our chances of success.
In the meantime, search our archives by typing the names of cities or countries in the search bar in the right hand sidebar. The bottom of each post is also tagged by location to make searching easier with a single click.
Below are four new sets of pictures, including a first set from Nova Scotia, Canada. We are constantly working on a backlog of submissions and are dedicated to posting them more frequently.
If you have any comments about the blog or would like to suggest future additions, please leave them in the comments below.
Cheers!
Matt
